Red Nucleus is looking for a Director of Scientific Services to provide strategic insight, direction, and leadership for our medical writing services in the Commercial and Research & Development business spaces. The successful candidate will act as a source of therapeutic expertise and oversee scientific excellence internally and externally. The Director of Scientific Services will also be responsible for driving the growth and excellence of Red Nucleus’s medical writing services and products. The successful candidate will also assist in new business development across the entire portfolio of our current and future customers.


  • Collaborate with senior leadership to determine goals for medical writing services and drive their execution
  • Interact consultatively and productively with Commercial and Research & Development colleagues
  • Effectively manage and lead multiple levels of writers to support strategic initiatives
  • Partner with and provide strategic services to clients across their brand’s product life cycle
  • Research and write scientifically accurate content in response to strategic needs
  • Align, coordinate, and build consistent messages across individual submission and eLearning documents for client’s Clinical and Commercial Programs to ensure effective communication in the respective submission documents (ie, CSR, Protocol, Synopsis, etc)
  • Work in close collaboration with our client’s Research & Development functions and Commercial Teams as needed to help drive strategic content and cohesive messaging, and to ensure accuracy and consistency in messaging and data presentation
  • Contribute scientific support to proposals and sales pitches
  • Identify new product and service opportunities and lead their development and/or promotion, working in coordination with senior leadership and other team resources as needed
  • Contribute to the foundation of the medical writing services through drafting internal processes/SOPs, developing/contributing to style guides and templates, and supporting client audits
  • Support efforts to attract, hire, mentor, and retain medical writers that provide best-in-class service


  • Ph.D. in a life science, Pharm.D., or M.D.
  • 7+ years of medical writing experience, 2+ at the Director level
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and lead value-driving initiatives
  • Track record of effectively mentoring and coaching medical writers
  • Willingness and ability to quickly master a new therapeutic category or disease state
  • Expertise in specialty drug therapies is a plus
  • Experience leading Medical Affairs/MSL training programs is a plus
  • Understanding of drug development, clinical development, and program strategy
  • Understanding of global submission strategy, Research & Development systems, and submission lifecycles (including eCTD)
